His father was David Isaak from Berseba and his mother was Kathrina Isaak (neé Pieter) also from Berseba. His grandfather was Hendrik Samuel Isaak. He was married in 1931 in Gideon by Spellmeier to: Hanna Isaak (neé Fredrik) born 11.4.1913 in Okanjanda bei Otjiwarongo. Her father was Max Fredrik and her mother was Kathrina Fredrik (neé Witbooi) She was a daughter of Hendrik Witbooi. Hendrik Samuel Isaak and his wife had 17 children of which 2 were important persons in the Lutheran Church: Kornelius Isaak (had died by 2004) was a teacher and elder and Paul Isaak. The daughter of Paul Isaak was called after her: Kathrina Isaak. It was her husband who taught her. Her marriage with Hendrik Samuel Isaak was an arranged marriage by Spellmeier. He was the one who married them in Gibeon. Whenever her husband would beat her, she would run to the Spellmeiers for protection. On the first Sunday after the secession by the AMEC people it was only Hendrik Samuel Isaak, his own wife and children and the elder //Awaseb, his wife and children in the church. Isaak preached about Jes. 42, 2-4. After the secession in 1946 he applied for a transfer from Gibeon. Because his uncle Petrus Jod, who was one of the leaders of AMEC in Gideon had big frictions amongst them. Still, the people of Gideon were afraid ("bang") of Isaak. He was transferred to Kub. Before the people of AMEC split, everything had already been prepared and written down. All the things of Hendrik Samuel Isaak were stolen in Karrasburg. Attended the so called "second course" for teachers and Evangelists of Vedder at the Augustineum from 16.07.1926 (its actual commencing date) till the end of the teachers course on the 21.06.1929 and was send as a teacher to Gibeon.2 Was he the Hendrik Isaak who attended the second three-year course in Okahandja? If so then the following information: born 1910, came from Gibeon before joining the Augustineum. Was not married during the course in Okahandja and was afterwards send to Gibeon. According to Vedder's report he only spoke Nama RMG 2.648 p. 28 - 30. He served the RMS for more than 30 years as teacher, evangelist and pastor. His predecessor was Salomon Isaak.3 Großvater: Samuel Isaak ("[...] der in der Geschichte Südwests als Unterkapitän von Hendrik Witbooi bekannt ist. Samuel Isaak kam aus dem Klein-Namaqua-Land nach Südwest. Er war unter den ersten Schülern von Missionar Olpp sen. und erhielt hier seine Ausbildung als Schullehrer. Samuel Isaak war in Okawayo interniert, wo er von 1906 bis 1914 Gottesdienste "unter Anleitung von Missionar Elger" hielt. Vater: Moses David Isaak. (Beide Eltern starben kurz hinter einander in Jahr 1921). Im Jahre 1915 zog die Familie nach Gibeon. Nach dem Tod der Eltern wurde Hendrik Samuel Isaak von Spellmeyer versorgt. "Zum Glück hatte ich noch eine Großmutter, die gläubig war. Ihr habe ich neben Missionar Spellmeyer zu verdanken, daß ich christlich erzogen worden bin und die Liebe zum Dienst für Christus in mir geweckt wurde." 1926 schickte ihn Spellmeyer an das Augustineum in Okahandja. Hier wurde Vedder "der geistlicher Vater" von Hendrik Isaak und half ihm aus mit Taschengeld und anderer Unterstützung. 1929 [Druckfehler im Originaltext, denn dort steht 1926.] besteht er die Prüfung zum Lehrer mit dem Prädikat "gut" und wird nach Gibeon, bzw. später nach Kranzplatz und Maltahöhe geschickt. "Später gab mir Missionar Spellmeyer die Erlbaunis, auch als Evangelist Dienst zu tun." Als 21-jähriger heiratet er die 18-jährige Hanna Fredrik. Das Ehepaar bekommt 14 Kinder. Die Gründung der AMEC bedeutet "eine große Erschütterung" für ihn und beeinträchtigt auch seine Gesundheit. Während er noch nach Möglichkeiten überlegt, in SA eine Ausbildung aufzusuchen, wird er gebeten im Paulinum den Pastoren-Kurs zu besuchen. Ordination durch Diehl (assistiert durch Rust und Mayer) am 17.07.1949 in Gibeon. Was married to Hanna, one of his daughters Anna-Katrina was in the first group of confirmation students which he confirmed. He spoke Nama, Afrikaans and Herero.6 Attended the important first evangelists conference in Karibib in January 1948 amongst 48 other evangelists from the 22 congregations from all over SWA 1.EC 1948 RMG 2.642p.69, In 1943 Isaak was placed from Gibeon to Maltahöhe. He was ordained in Gibeon wand was transferred to Maltahöhe in 1949. He served in the Sigem congregation from until his death in 1961. "Daar was groot mennigte [sic] mense nie blankes en blankes.9 Married: Married to Hanna Isaak who died on the 01.01.2005 in Gibeon. Hanna Isaak on the 13.8.2004 at her home in Gibeon. Hanna Isaak was born in Otjiwarongo, where her mother (Hanna Isaak) was to after the release from shark island. Hanna Isaak (sen.) was not allowed to return to her place of origin in Gibeon but was send to internal exile in Otjiwarongo. When Namibia was taken over by the South African mandate government in 1919, Hanna Isaak and her daughter Hanna, now at to return to Bethany. At the age of 7, Hanna Isaak was taken by her aunt to Gibeon, where she started attending school. Her teachers were Hendrik Witbooi - "die oudste seun van Oupa !Nanseb" ("Klein-Hendrik"??), Oupa Petrus Jod and Oupa Fritz Isaak.10 At the age of 18 she married the "/Khowesin man" Hendrik Samuel Isaak, who was trained as a carpenter and teacher. The marriage was blessed with many children and additional to their own children they gave a home to many children from the surrounding farms. This led to the establishment of the first hostel within the Lutheran Church.11 In 1943 she moved to Maltahöhe with her husband when he was transferred from Gibeon to Maltahöhe. She described her personal experience during the secession of AMEC from the Lutheran Church as "existentially difficult, life threatening, emotionally draining, nerve wrecking, en spiritually devastating." For Hanna Isaak the history after 1946 was a time of "geloofswroeging". She considered all the fathers Petrus Jod, Petrus Andreas Schmidt, Willem Moses and Hendrik Samuel Isaak as "geloofsvaders".12 Hanna Isaak was a very independent women "who always emphasised that she was the one who decided on matters". In May 1989 she moved back to Gibeon at the age of 76. According to her there was now calmness and peace between the people and the churches and she was now able to go back to Gideon and rest peacefully.13 In December 1990 her son, Gottfried Josef Isaak, a theology student at Paulinum, died under tragic circumstances. This death left a deep pain behind in Hanna Isaak, one of those storms which, according to her, from which she escaped in her believe in Jesus. She was a very "hardkoppige" and independent woman, who insisted to live with one of her grandchildren and kook her own food.14 Her message to her children and grandchildren, which she dictated in 1995 to Meester Jacobus van der Westhuyzen: "My children, you were brought up under prayers and "onder gebedslewe". In this very life, the most difficult times will come. Be then quiet in the Lord and turn silent with prayers. Find "toevlug" to God and God will make "kalmte" possible. If you hear the church bells ringing, turn in that direction from which the sound originates. Be part of God's house. In this life you will hear many other bells than the church bells. They always want to sound sweeter than the church bells. Mission Stations: Maltahöhe (Dittmer) History with the RMG: Further reading: Brief aus Maltahöhe im August 1950 an die "Missionsfreunde und alle, die unserer gedenken" Hendrik Isaak schreibt von der Gemeinde in Maltahöhe, die mit ihrer Mitgliedschaft die "Muttergemeinde" in Gibeon übertroffen hatte, aber in der "[...] die inneren Zustände [...] in mancher Hinsicht übersehen und unterdrückt [wurden]." 1939 sei die Syphilis und 1945 der Typhus gekommen. Da habe er schon die Gemeinde ermahnt und gefordert, sich "[...] demütig [zu] beugen". Das Schlimmste wäre aber 1946 gekommen: dann seien die "Reismiere" [sic! Die Übersetzung spricht von "weißen Ameisen"] gekommen und hätten die Südseite der Missionsmauer aufgefressen. "Aus diesen unerwünschten Ereignissen können wir nun sehr, sehr viel lernen." Vor der Spaltung habe er nicht gewusst, dass es Frauen in der Gemeinde gab die Zuckerbier gebraut hätten, aber nun weiß er es - "[...] und zwar auf beiden Seiten." Nun könnten sie ihre Gemeindeglieder nicht mehr "[...] in Zaum halten", außerdem würden die Vormänner nicht mehr respektiert. Heute müsse er außerdem sehr vorsichtig sein und sie "[...] dürfen nicht hart auftreten", da sonst seine Gemeindeglieder zur AMEC übertreten würden. Die Familienmitglieder die bei der AMEC sind, würden bei Krankheit und selbst bei Todesfällen, ihren Familienmitgliedern innerhalb der RMG keinen Beistand mehr leisten und selbst keine Notiz von diesen Vorfällen nehmen. Die AMEC würde sich außerdem als Volksbewegung der Nama unter ihren eigenen Führung und deren strikten Leitung darstellen, während die RMG Mitglieder unter der Führung des weißen Mannes stehen würden. Wer bei der RMG bleibt, reißt sich von dem eigenen Volk los. Die Rolle der Nama-Führer steht im Mittelpunkt. "Ich bin von N.N. [gemeint ist z.B. Petrus Jod] getauft worden, von ihm in der Schule unterrichtet und auch später konfirmiert worden, also kenne ich nur ihn, wohin er geht, gehe auch ich." Isaak schreibt: "Unsere Bemühungen, unsere Leute von ihrem Abfall zu überzeugen, ist sozusagen hoffnungslos, und bei einigen hat es eher Böses als Gutes gewirkt. Allein der Geist Gottes wird zu seiner Zeit unsere Gebete erhören, unsere Leute erleuchten und überzeugen, welch ein Unrecht sie getan haben und sie vielleicht zurückkehren läßt. [...] Die Gemeindeglieder stören sich nicht mehr an die Bewegung der Gegner, die noch eifrig Propaganda machen, und erfüllen treu ihre kirchliche Pflichten.
