After the battle of Omarur on the 04.01.1904 only about 10 Herero remained in town. In the night of 28.01.1904 part of the Bergdamara congregation who did not want to join the Herero in the war against the Germans had fled to Okombahe. Some of them who remained were murdered, but the appearance of Franke on the 04.02.1904 saved their lives. Dannert counted 110 churchgoing Bergdamara members. Dannert moved to Karibib because of healthreasons and "Bergdamaragehülfe" Elisa took over the work in Omaruru.1
