Jansen (Janse), Cornelius (Kornelius) * ?, ? † 25.09.1890, ?. After the congregation Grootfontein South was dissolved (because Klaas Zwarts and his people moved away in 1883) it was Cornelius Janse who served the travelling congregation with School teaching and church services. He did this independently until 1885, when the group settled in Rietfontein and RMS missionary Pabst was stationed there.1 Pabst, while stationed in Warmbad, visited Kaunas (near the Bak Revier) in August 1883. Here the "Grootfontein" people had settled. Together with Jakobus Bezuidenhout, Jansen was responsible for the congregation. During their encounter in Kaunas, the two of them reported to Pabst about the progress of the work. Pabst promoted Jansen to be the temporary school teacher and requested them also to also take care of the Namaquas in the surrounding. The "Häuptling" Klaas Zwarts handed over an amount of £ 12,10 from the returns of the "Gemeindeherde".2 Elder and evangelist who came from Grootfontein South to Rietfontein when missionary Pabst established Rietfontein in 1885. Janse was inaugurated in the position as an elder of Rietfontein on the 10.01.1886 and he became one of the most important co-worker in founding the new congregation.3 During the two month absence of Pabst in 1889 and 1890, Cornelius Janse substituted the missionary (practically this meant he taught in the School, held Church Services and taught the catechumen).4 Died of the influenza on 25.09.1890.5 Married: Children: Education: Other family members connected to RMG: The mother of Cornelius Jansen was a "Fingu-Frau" from the time of slavery.
