She was baptised as an adult. Baptized: 17.11.1944. Confirmed: 09.11.1961.7 Jesaja grew up with his mother, who was not living with Andreas Nashongo at that time. Andreas Nashongo was recruted as a soldier during II WW, after that he worked in a town. (The wife of pastor Nashongo has photos of Andreas Nashongo while serving in the army, probably in Gobabis.) 5 Children of Andreas Nashongo: Jesaja was the first born of Andreas Nashongo and his wife. He was named after a friend of his father, whose name was Jesaja Salomo. Two other siblings live in Walvisbaai, one in Ovamboland in Onamukulo (near Oshigambo). All five children (of which one died) grew up in Oshigambo. The older sister of the Jesaja's mother (Franzina) moved to Swakopmund, where she married. Thomas Shidhudhu in 1945. She took Nashongo along to Swakopmund. Franzina divorced in 1957 in Walfish Bay. In 1958 the family moved to Walfish Bay. When Andreas Nashongo and his wife married by law in the 1980's. In 1957, Jesaja (only he of all his brothers and sisters) and his mother moved to Swakopmund and stayes with Franzina. (contradiction??) That was after his confirmation. (where and by whom??) A year later, in 1958 the family moved to Walvisbay. Franzina married again in Walvisbay, a man with the name of Mathias Ndonga, a Christian from the Oshigambo congregation. Ndonga was a family member of Hipandulua. Jesaja attended the Primary School in Walvisbay, which was the RMS School in the Location during that time. The old School-Building was a wooden construction next to the old RMS church. The School was very close to his own house. His teachers were: Immanuel Ruiters, Karl Hackerdorn (a catholic of Damara/Nama origin) und David Hipondoka (Hipondoka was the son of Lukas Hipondoka, who was the RMS evangelist at Walvisbay. They were Kwanyama. The RMS missionary at the station was Kuhles. When the location was build in 1960 they had to move to Kuisebmond. The School was now named Immanuel Ruiters School. In 1960-61 the School became a secondary school. After completing Std. 5 in Walvisbay, he moved to Karibib in 1962 were he became a student at the Martin Luther Highschool. The teachers were Tötemeyer, Jung and J. Hoebeb. In 1964 he completed his Std. 8. It was missionary Kuhles who brought two students from Walvisbay (Jesaja and Ngeno Nakamhela) to Karibib. After the death of Lukas Hipondoka in 1961, ELCIN send Jason Haufiku to Walvisbay - Jason Haufiku was the brother of the mother of Ngeno Nakamela. During this time Nathanael Maxauilli was one of the SWAPO activists in Walvisbay. He wanted Jesaja to go to Tansania. His mother however was very much against this plan and therefor influenced Kuhles, so that he would arrange for Jesaja to be admitted in MLH at Karibib. This plan between Kuhles and his mother worked out and even after completing MLH he was immediately admitted in Paulinum, without an application. He studied at the Paulinum from 1965 to December 1968. In 1969 he did his time as a vicar in the ELK-Congregation of Outjo, where Eichholz was the RMS missionary. Those years were very political. Eichholz was not allowed to visit the farms and it was therefore Jesaja who travelled with the evangelist "Jan" on a donkey-cart to the farms. The boers beat them and that was the reason that he was transferred to Walvisbai in December 1969 to RMS missionary Walter Moritz. Here he was ordained on 06.12.1970 by pastor Jason Haufiku and missionary Moritz in Walfishbay. He worked in Walvisbay for two years as a pastor. In June 1972 he was appointed as the ELK-pastor for Lüderitz. He worked there until December 1977. During that time there was no evangelist in Lüderitz. From January to April 1978 he was working in Grootfontein. Nashongo speaks Ndonga, Afrikaans, Otjiherero, English, a little bit of Nama. Nashongo worked in Grootfontein. from January 1978 until April 1978. An event changed his life in 1979: Nashongo and his family were staying in the church compound near to the old church in town. One evening, after celebrating the evening devotion at the church in the location and when he came home, he saw that the whole area was covered with bright flood lights. When he entered the gate, he found his wife with two children standing in the door. Obvious in panic she shouted at him to come running over the yard and hide in the house. While running over to her, he saw a person with a gun crawling over in the direction of the building in one part of the garden. Nashongos dogs were barking at the person on the ground. When Nashongo reached the safety of the building, he noticed that the whole area was surrounded by Army and police. It was clear to Nashongo, that they had been waiting for him, probably also with the intention to kill him. After some fearful hours in the house, the intruders left. After this day, Nashongo and his family moved to the house of Ana Kayele (Ana was a very active member of the ELK congregation Grootfontein in the location because they felt safer there. They stayed there for a week. Since the Church Board felt that Nashongo's life was at risk in Grootfontein, they called him to Windhoek. There he stayed in one of the guestrooms (in one of the "buitekamers". In April 1979 he was arrested in Windhoek without an arrest warrant and taken to the headquarters of the Police. In the cells he found Axel Johannes. From the headquarters of Police they were removed to the main prison in Windhoek. After three hours he found himself in company of other SWAPO members who were also arrested without being given any reason for their arrest. Amongst them were: Jakob Nangolo, Leonard Muwkilongo, Dr. Hushua, Leonard Shongolo, Melanchton Kaukungwa Joshua Shililifa, John Shaetonhodi, Israel Kalenga and a certain Festus of Lüderitz. From Windhoek they were all taken to Gobabis where they were kept till September 1980. From Gobabis he was shifted to Osire. He was only released in September 1981. After this gruelling experience, with two and a half years in custody, without that any conviction, court case or without anybody from the outside knowing were he was kept, the Church Board send him to the congregation in Tsumeb in October 1981. During his time in Tsumeb he still had to report to the local police twice a day, in the morning at 9 and in the evening at 5. In 1982 the bishops of the Lutheran Churches had a meeting in the Minen Hotel in Tsumeb. There they wrote a letter to the AG in Windhoek. In October 1982 Bishop Frederick suggested to Nashongo to join the Botswana mission of the ELK amongst the Herero and Bushmen, together with pastor Musutua, Ananias !Gau !gaseb and Gerson Uhihama. Nashongo worked there till April 1983, when the work in Botswana was finally handed over to the Church in Botswana. After returning to Namibia he lived more or less clandestine in Windhoek and sometimes in Otjimbingwe (where also two men - Moremi and Hausiku - from ELOC were hiding) till 1984. In March 1985 his church send him to Germany to attend a conference and visit solidarity groups in different European countries on a political mission. When he was back in Namibia in 1986, he still had to report twice a day to the police in Tsumeb. In the same year he was given a car by SWAPO for political campaigns. Von Taak was the name of the policeman (and "friend"), who had the task to over shadow Nashongo. Together with Johannes Wentstein they were the two ELK pastors in Tsumeb. During the time of the repatriation he was nominated for the RRR-committee in Tsumeb 1987-88. (The RRR-committee had 2 centres in the North: Mariabronn and the house of the Anglican Church in Tsumeb at the entrance to the hospital). During all these years, his wife always stayed in Tsumeb. By the middle of 1990 it was obvious to Nashongo, that his first marriage has broken down. In June 1991 the couple separated. In 1988 he was to be in the delegation for a conference in Sambia, but his passport was not in order, and he could not travel. Married (for the first time) on the 29.06.1969 in Tsumeb to: Rosalia Ndilimeke Hishono born 23.01.1946 in ?? Father: Johannes Hishono, ELCIN evangelist for Tsumeb. Mother: Lucia Hishono. Inri Boetie born 28.06.1973 in Lüderitz, died in a car accident in 1982 on the main road near to Oshivelo. Jack Franzis born 1975 in Lüderitz, died in the same car accident in 1982. Nelago Victoria born1976 in Lüderitz. Married (for the second time) in January 1992 in Okaku: Annatjie Haufiku Was a teacher by profession. Teacher at Gape Shihepo School, Ongwediva. Started to work in the Oshakati Bank in 1992. Children: Ndapandula Nashongo born on 05.04.1998 in Otjiwarongo. After Independence, Pastor Nashongo's greatest wish was to become a pastor for the NDF. He wished to become an army pastor for Sector10 of NDF, but the church did not fulfil his wish in 1992. In 1993 he was placed in Otjiwarongo as a congregation pastor. Then the idea popped up that he could work amongst the Herero returnee.at Okakarara, Tsumke, up to Gama at the boarder. But because there was no money, the work was stopped in 1998. 1993 in Otjiwarongo mit Geingob. 1999 nach Tsumeb versetzt.
