HMM, Keetmanshoop 10.04.2007 According to Andreas (Andries) Isaak's wife, the Evangelist used to say, whenever he was asked about his work as an Evangelist: "Hierdie is nie 'n werk nie, dit is 'n roeping!" (This is not a work, this is a mission.) Father: Andreas Isaak, † 1956. RMS teacher and elder in the congregation of Ganigobis-Berseba. Mother: Rachel Isaak, née Goliath. Died in Bethany, while her husband worked there as a teacher. They had four children. Andreas (Andries) Isaak was the second oldest son. Second wife of his father, Andreas Isaak: Anna Magdalena Isaak from Berseba. The elder brother of Evangelist Andreas (Andries) Isaak was Josef Isaak. He joined AMEC in 1948 and became an Evangelist in that church. Andreas (Andries) was baptised as a small child and confirmed in Berseba. Pastor David Adam motivated Andreas (Andries) to become an Evangelist/Pastor. Andreas (Andries) started his schooling in Berseba before he went to Keetmanshoop. Here he stayed at the home of his niece (Tiboth). In Keetmanshoop he completed his Std. 2. After School he started to work at the gravel road/team of workers who accompanied the padskrapper/gravel road grader. Was employed as assistant evangelist in 1952 in Ganigobis-Berseba. It is also not completely clear whether he was an elder in the congregation beforehand. RMG 2.651a p. 53r+81. Worked for the SAR in Gawachab, Kolmanskop, ?? and Mariental. Andreas (Andries) met his wife in Keetmanshoop. Married on 12.09.1950 in Keetmanshoop to: Magdalena Plaatjies [sic] born 05.02.1918 baptized by RMS missionary Fritz Rust and confirmed by RMS missionary Hermann Tötemeyer on the 08.08.1937. Children (only one son): Wilhelm Isaak * 1941, † 26.08.1997. Was a farmer on the farm Gawachab. (1953 adopted child, the daughter of the sister of Magdalena Plaatjies, who lived at Voigtsgrund) Lydia Zaal, born in Keetmanshoop. Went to School in Karibib and Otjimbingwe. In Windhoek at the Augustineum and studied at the Windhoek Onderwyskollege (WOK) to become a teacher. She worked as a teacher in Keetmanshoop in 2007 during the interview with Magdalena Isaak. 1957 resigned from the SAR and started to work at the Post Office. It was always the wish of his father that his son would be an Evangelist one day. The father started to mention this wish already when the couple was engaged in 1949. According to the written notes of Lydia Christians, Andreas (Andries) Isaak joined the Paulinum for an Evangelist course in 1958, after which he worked in the Keetmanshoop "platteland" with a donkey cart. According to the same notes, he again went for an Evangelist course in 1960. [This does not correspondent with HMM database on the Evangelist courses in Karibib] In 1961 Andreas (Andries) Isaak is stationed in Koës as an Evangelist. Was issued with a certification of exemption from pass law in the rank as an Evangelist of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in S.W.A. from the headquarter Keetmanshoop in November 1961.1 He attends the first pastors course at the Paulinum in Otjimbingwe from 1963-64. Ordained in Keetmanshoop on the 16.05.1965 by Albert Mouton. He worked in Koës, Gibeon, Keetmanshoop and again in Koës as a pastor. The church building in Koës, St. Andreas was called after him. Andreas (Andries) Isaak used to play violin, trumpet and was the choir leader of the church choir. The church choir of Koës was known in the South of Namibia, it used to sing at marriage services, even in Aroab. According to his wife, he called himself "'n trotse Lutheran". This was his own "trots". Magdalena Isaak never attended the services of AMEC. [One day she wanted to attend Holy Communion, but was not prepared to hand out her ELK card. Probably this was the reason why she was not allowed to participate in Holy Communion. HMM] This was her reason why she remained with the ELK. "It was not in me to join AMEC." It was coincidental that she met Andreas (Andries) during the conflict with AMEC. The two of them wanted to get married already in 1946. Even Andreas (Andries) Isaak did not want to change the church. Bevor they married, the whole Plaatjie family (the family originated from Gochas and Stampriet) joined AMEC, but Magdalena Plaatjie stayed with the ELK. Er wird wohl aus Gesundheitsrücksichten bald von Lüderitzbucht versetzt werden müssen."6 Any connection to?: Eduard Isaak. baptized Berseba, 1848 † Berseba, 02.03.1914. (JBRMG 1914:34).
