Was issued with a certification of exemption from pass law in the rank as (the space in the form is not filled) of the Rhenish Mission from the headquarter Otjimbingwe Native Reserve, Karibib in February 1949. Worked for 10 years as an Evangelist of the RMS before joining the Otjimbingwe Reserve Council.1
When he applied again for an exemption from pass law, he is no longer working as an Evangelist but serves now on the Otjimbingwe Reserve Council. He applied for a new exemption with the argument "[...] it is very unconvenient for me to always apply for a pas and my prestige as Council member wil be strengthened if I have the exemption.§2
For further studies of the Gertse family, which moved to Eselsbank/Wupperthal and Beukeskraal/Wupperthal in the Cape with Rath in 1861 (the family called itself Koherta before changing to Gertse), see Moritz in Journal XXIII p 43.

In einer Ergänzungsliste der Evangelistenlisten vom August 1947 heißt es "Otjimbingwe: Johannes Gertse und Efraim Araeb, abgesetzt beide wegen unversöhnlichem Streites."3
