Tsowaseb, Erich * 02.09.1913, Karibib. † . Baptized: 1914. Confirmed: 1947. Mother language: Nama. Other languages: Afrikaans, Herero. Worked as a worker in Karibib before joining the Church. Completed Std. III. Evangelist course: 1947-1948 and 1951-1952. Pastors course: 1959. Ordained on the 13.03.1960 in Gobabis.1 He completed the second evangelist course at Paulinum in Karibib after the examination in December 1947. The course was for one year; he came from Karibib to the Paulinum, was classified as Bergdama and was 34 years old when he finished. He passed the examination with "satisfactory", and was send to Otjimbingwe. He was married when attending the evangelist course. RMG 2.651a p. 195. RMG 2.641 p. 069, RMG 2.640b p. 003, Mentionedas"Bergdama""Paulinum"ECOkahandja1951p.48, Erich Tsowaseb, Otjimbingwe, "Bergdama", attended the course for chief evangelists (so called "Förderungskurs") at Paulinum which started in August 1951. Completed the course with an examination end of October 1952. Because he was amongst the group of 7 in the course who had a "satisfying" to "good" examination result, he qualified for a promotion to become a chief evangelist with the right to administer the sacraments in the district of his congregation. Was send to Gobabis. RMG 2.651a p. 80. During the "Förderingskurs" (August 1951 to October 1952) Erich Tsowaseb took the initiative to question the authority of certain RMS missionaries who introduced rules in the congregation which were not according to the church- and evangelist-order. E. g. children were baptized whose parents marriage were not in order, confirmed young people who had learned nothing and who had been excluded from the confirmation class by the evangelist because of adultery. As long as they paid money for the "Amtshandlung" they received it, thereby undermining the authority of the evangelist. Missionary Kuhlmann, under whom Erich Tsowaseb worked, was mentioned as an example of a missionary who were handling things in the congregation like that, with the knowledge of the former preses - who resided in the congregation - and other RMS employees. The frustration amongst Paulinum students about this condition was so big that it prompted Pönnighaus to write a letter to the board of the RMS in Namibia and a requested an answer for the evangelists.
